Twist Out!

Just a simple twist out. I twisted about 8 sections and air dried them. This picture is of two day hair.

My ends need clipping because I have some straight strands that are messing up the look.

My Experiment w/Protective Styles

Here is a pic of a twist that I tried out for the first time. This picture was taken after 4 days. I wore it up most of the time because I wasn't really feeling it. My honey loved it though, so I may do it again to see if it will grow on me. It was great as a protective style and my ends were easier to moisturize.

Glam Holiday Hair!

If you don't already know by now, I love putting my hair up for a night on the town. I also love adding hair accessories to complete the look. For me, there are many benefits to this. For one, no matter what weather you are having or what the level of humidity is inside the event, your hair will never fail. Secondly, it looks so glamorous when a woman has her hair up in a regal style, with some type of bling in her hair, showing off her beautiful neckline. Also, having your hair up eliminates your hairstyle competing with your outfit (an updo goes with everything).

And lastly, an updo w/accessories looks great even when your hair is not totally "done"!

Below are a few ideas I grabbed from Essence Magazine. They are a great way to glam up your hair for the holiday without breaking the bank. Many of the accessories or similar styles are available at Forever21. The headband is definitely available at Forever21.

Hello!

My old hair up do style

After the rollers have been removed

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday!
I ate my butt off and paid for it later, (tummy ache) but it was well worth it!

Well, here is another hair update. As you know this is my go to hairstyle and it works great for me as a protective style. It usually lasts about 4 days, then I put it up in a bun in the back and slide on a headband for another 3 to 4 days.

My hair seems to turn out the same way no matter what products I use. Maybe this is a good thing, but I really need to see my stylist to get my ends trimmed and to see length. Wearing my hair this way makes my hair look shorter than it is and when it gets old (after a week) it really gets big. I want big hair from the start, but I guess that will come in time.

For this style I used the small, yellow, magnetic rollers and I only used Herbal Essence Hello Hydration for my cowash and as a setting lotion. I also applied shea butter to the ends before rolling. (It is very important to add some type of moisturizer to the ends before rolling your hair)

I just air dried it overnight, fluffed out with my fingers and off I went to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

Happy Hair!

Chicago Natural

Hello Divas!

I had the pleasure of spending 5 wonderful days in Chicago with my honey and friends this past week. The weather was great (a little rain, but it did not hinder my adventures) and I got some great shopping in for fall. I also ate way more than I am accustomed to, so I will definitely be hitting the gym overtime for the next few weeks. (Gotta stay slim to fit in all the cute deals I bought)

I also met a wonderful woman by the name of Rebeca who I just had to stop and ask her about her beautiful head of natural curls. She stated she has been natural all of her life and she uses Miss Jessie Products and Moroccanoil Products. I have highlighted the Miss Jessie website in the past and the website for Moroccanoil is www.moroccanoil.com

I am going to try the product line. Rebeca stated it works wonders on dry hair.

I will give a review at a later date.

Check out these beautiful curls!

Thanks a million Rebeca for the info and it was a pleasure talking with you!

From Curly To Straight

I had my curly twa going on for a while, so I decided to get it flat ironed this weekend to change things up a bit. (Change is good every once and awhile) Also, this allows me the opportunity to see my growth.
Me chillin at the winery!
Me chillin with the straight, feathered bob!

I don't like this side as much as the other - It has a mind of its own!

My stylist achieved this look by blow drying my hair semi-straight, then she used a flat iron to straighten and curl my hair. Everything was then combed back then raked forward with her hands. A little holding spray and off I go! I don't like to straighten too much, but I do like the change every now and then. This look last about 3 to four days depending on how much sweating I do in my head.
Also don't forget - too much heat is not a good thing!
I only do this once a month - sometimes every other month depending on my mood or certain events!

Tried something new!

O.k. Now I am very lazy when it comes to doing my hair. I was accustomed to visiting my stylist once, every week. Now, I have decided to start a relationship with my hair and do it myself more often. With that being said, I usually go to my favorite and easiest hairstyle, the rod set. I was looking at curly nikki's site and she talked about the pros and cons of different types of rollers when used for a twist out. When she stated the magnetic rollers were easier to use, I agreed whole hearted. So I thought I would try it out myself and see what happens. Now, my hair is half 100% natural (the back) and the front has relaxed ends with about 3-4 inches of natural new growth. I am going to let my hair grow out and gradually cut off the relaxer as I have repeatedly mentioned before. (I think I am trying to convince myself this is the right thing to do) With that being said, I figured my front would take well to the magnetic rollers, but my back would be another story. I co-washed with Pantene Naturals and Herbal Essence Totally Twisted and used the conditioner as a sealant for my set. I used magnetic rollers in the front and rods on the back. The curl pattern turned out very cool.

For all of the long-term transitioners out there, this is always a winner for me. I went to the gym today and my hair just got curlier as my head began to sweat. This hairstyle also holds up in humidity and I like the ease of the magnetic rollers. Funny thing is the back of my hair up to the curve of my head is totally natural because I got all of it shaved off two years ago for a short bob. I have not relaxed for 2 years and my hair seems straighter in the back than in the front where the relaxer is still evident on the ends. Go figure! I should bc because I love my curl pattern, but I am chicken. Maybe one day!

Transition Video

Results from Mixed Chicks Leave-In

Twist out w/o rollers (bobby pins in front instead of headband)

Before co-wash - 1 week old rod set

Well, I rocked my "transition fro" to work today and it was fun. I work in a corporate office and I wore my fro with much pride. Check out the pics!

The Mixed Chicks leave-in made my hair much softer than the Miss Jessie Curly Pudding, but the Miss Jessie has a better hold for this humidity. I will definitely continue to use both the Mixed Chicks leave-in and the Miss Jessie Curly Pudding. Maybe next time I will use both products together and see what results I get.

As I am looking at my pictures, I realize I really need to do the "big chop" but I am so scared. I have read other blogs of people who never did the bc and they just transitioned until the relaxer totally grew out, but I feel I am missing out on such a wonderful experience because I am holding on to those "wicked" ends. My ends are doing my "fro" such an injustice. Well, until I get the courage, I will stick it out. I was planning on doing the bc in December, but now I am getting cold feet.
Like I said before, I really do have a big head! (ha ha)
We will see.

If there are any long-term transitioners out there who never bc'd, please help me out with some tips to make this transition smoother.

Also, if you have a fro you enjoying rockin please send me a pic and I will feature it on my site!
